• The full-page, front-page editorial on Nov. 8 calling for Joe Paterno and President Graham Spanier to step down or be fired.
• The Patriot-News was being criticized by some people for “holding” the Sandusky story irresponsibly. On Nov. 10, editor David Newhouse wrote a column explaining how the paper reported the story and decided it was ready to print.
• As many were focusing on Paterno and a 2002 incident, Sara Ganim’s Nov. 11 story was the first comprehensive look at missed opportunities to investigate Sandusky going back to 1995.
• An investigation on Nov. 17 detailed the incestuous ties between Penn State and Sandusky’s charity, The Second Mile, that might have motivated school officials to minimize what they had heard.
• In response to a New York Times story about Victim One, Patriot-News editor David Newhouse wrote a Nov. 23 column about journalistic ethics and protecting the victim.
• Reaction to Newhouse’s column was extremely strong. It was castigated by some, praised by others.
• Several weeks later, New York Times Public Editor Art Brisbane wrote a column agreeing with Newhouse.
