Mike McAndrew
Reporter and Editor, The (Syracuse, N.Y.) Post-Standard 

Mike McAndrew has worked as a reporter and editor at The Post-Standard for 28 years. He is the editor directing The Post-Standard’s coverage of sexual abuse allegations against former Syracuse University associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine. In 2002 and 2003, McAndrew spent more than six months investigating former SU ball boy Bobby Davis’ allegations against Fine.

For the past two years, McAndrew has supervised the newspaper’s reporters covering city, county, state and federal governments.  Prior to that, he was a general assignment reporter. He has also covered a variety of beats, including crime, federal courts, the Onondaga Nation and higher education.

McAndrew and Post-Standard reporter Michelle Breidenbach won the 2007 Gerald Loeb Award, which honors the nation’s best business journalism, for investigative stories about New York State’s Empire Zone tax break program. McAndrew and Breidenbach were finalists in 2006 for the Loeb Award.

McAndrew has won numerous reporting awards from the Association of Capitol Reporters & Editors; the New York State Publishers’ Association; and the New York State Associated Press.

He previously worked for The Pottsville Republican, a daily paper in Pennsylvania, for two years. He is a vice president of the Syracuse Press Club.
